It’s a magical time of year, isn’t it? People are (generally, save the scrooges) in a great mood and places are illuminated with the spirit of the holidays. Combine that with boating and what do you get? Lighted boat parades!
One of the biggest parades in the country, the Winterfest Boat Parade in Fort Lauderdale, took place last weekend. They dub the parade “the greatest show on H2O.” If you aren’t familiar with what a holiday boat parade is, here is a video from the festivities last weekend:
Another popular parade is the Fisherman’s Wharf Holiday Boat Parade in San Francisco, which also took place last weekend for the 20th year in a row. This parade always has an added bonus: it caps the night off with fireworks.
If you want to check out a parade, don’t fret. Some of the biggest and brightest ones have yet to take place this year, including:
Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade, December 17-21
In its 106th year, this parade features over 100 boats and has been recognized by the New York Times as one of the best holiday events to attend in the country. If you are in the area, it’s definitely worth a visit.
Tampa Holiday Lighted Boat Parade, December 20, 2014
The “Twinkle in Tampa” is one of the biggest parades in Florida and will light up the sunshine state this Saturday.
San Diego Bay Parade of Lights, December 14 and 21, 2014
The second leg of the 43rd annual San Diego Bay Parade of lights will take place on Sunday and feature 80 boats. Don’t be late, the show starts at 5:30 pm.
